In Verizon territories in many of the states we service, we can now offer "freestanding DSL," or the ability to get our DSL service alone, without having to also pay the phone company for phone service if you don't want it.
 
Where is it available?
Freestanding DSL is now available in Verizon territory, including parts of California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington state, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, D.C., West Virginia and Wisconsin.
 
EarthLink’s Freestanding DSL offers the ability to have EarthLink’s DSL Internet service without having a land line telephone service. Freestanding DSL allows customers to utilize a stand alone data line without voice services. The option of not having a land line home phone.
With EarthLink’s Freestanding DSL you will save money simply by eliminating the cost associated with telephone services.
 
Do I need to have home phone service to get EarthLink DSL?
In most locations, DSL requires that you have an active home phone line. In locations where Verizon provides local phone service, we are able to offer what we call Freestanding DSL. This money-saving option gives you broadband Internet access without an active phone line.

Is my monthly phone service included in the EarthLink DSL charges?
No. Your DSL connection will use your existing phone line, but phone service will still be provided by your phone company (unless you switch to our EarthLink DSL & Home Phone Service). Your regular monthly telephone service charges are not included in EarthLink DSL service. 
 
Installation is a snap, even if you’re not technically inclined, and if you do run into a problem we have 24 hour technical support available to walk you through every step of the way.
 
If I'm upgrading from EarthLink Dial-Up, can I keep my email address and software?
Yes. It couldn't be easier for current EarthLink Dial-Up members like you to upgrade to High Speed DSL. You don't have to change email addresses, your myEarthLink start page stays the same, and you can keep using all the same EarthLink software.
 
Can I talk on the phone and use DSL service at the same time?
Yes, that's no problem. Surf and talk all you like. There's no need to add an additional phone line for EarthLink DSL service. And, unlike with Dial-Up, you won't experience any busy signals on your phone line when you are online.
 
How much faster is EarthLink High Speed DSL than Dial-Up?
Our DSL plans range from 13x to 145x faster than a typical 56K dial-up connection.
1.5Mbps DSL — 25x faster than dial-up
3.0Mbps DSL — 55x faster than dial-up
6.0Mbps DSL — 100x faster than dial-up
8.0Mbps DSL — 145x faster than dial-up (Only available with Home phone bundle)
 
Will I connect to the Internet instantly?
Yes. EarthLink High Speed DSL gives you instant connections without any dialing in, no waiting, no busy signals. It's always available for you at a moment's notice. Because you never know when you'll need to look something up or when you'll have that YouTube urge strike you!
 
Can I access the Internet if I'm on the road?
Along with your Unlimited High speed Internet we also provide you 20 hours of free dial up service every month. We provide the dial up access to you primarily for when you travel or need to connect while away from your unlimited high speed.
 
Can I use EarthLink DSL on all my home computers? Can I set up a home network?
Yes, that's one of the big benefits you get with a high-speed connection. EarthLink Home Networking lets you share one high-speed connection on all your home computers, as well as share files, printers, and peripherals. And with the free wireless equipment that comes with EarthLink Home Networking, you can enjoy high-speed access as you move around your home with a laptop, even connecting from the front porch or backyard. Plus, our support experts can help you get your network set up properly and provide assistance whenever you need it.
